Session synopsis: 
Join us for this interactive panel discussion featuring a selection of leaders, innovators and experts drawn from ADEE’s corporate partners and their collaborators.

The session, chaired by ADEE president Prof Pål Barkvoll, will provide the panel opportunity to share their thoughts and vision of what Dentistry and the education of dental team professionals will likely look like in 2030 drawing on their current innovation focus, priorities and direction. As the session progresses they will also share hints and tips on how schools and universities can make the most of existing innovations and technologies so as to be best positions for the next cycle of change. Collectively the panel has experience in delivering innovative solution to dental schools both large and small in a diverse range of topics, specialisms and locations.

A session not to be missed with a max capacity of 180 to enable best interactivity and networking.

Clinical Professor in Restorative Dental Sciences
University of Hong Kong, Faculty of Dentistry


Prof Michael Botelho has been at HKU for 27 years and has been actively engaged in educational reform, pedagogy and innovation. He has over 100 publications with 20 papers and 8 book chapters in education and 19 education grants. He has lectured and consulted in across South-East Asia and in Europe and North America. His educational research interests are related to the innovative use of video and online learning, PBL, flipped classes and closing the clinical transition gap. He has a number of teaching awards at HKU including the first Teaching Innovation Award, the Team Award and the UDTA. He is also a recipient of the UGC Teaching Award. He is currently the President-Elect of the Educational Research Group of the IADE. He is a former Regional Attaché for ADEE

Jonathan Davies

King’s College London Centre for Clinical, Oral and Translational Research

Jonathan qualified in Dentistry from King’s College London in 2000. On qualification he worked in general dental practice, the community dental services and hospital dental services in South Wales and Dundee.

Jonathan undertook specialist training in Dental & Maxillofacial Radiology at Guy’s Hospital and completed an MSc in Dental & Maxillofacial Radiology at the same time. On completion of training he became a GDC registered specialist in Dental & Maxillofacial Radiology.

Jonathan has worked in the hospital dental services and as an academic in Dental Radiology, teaching and examining both undergraduate and postgraduate dental students.

Jonathan has been a past council member and honorary secretary of the British Society of Dental & Maxillofacial Radiology, honorary lecturer for the Royal College of Surgeons of England and been a member of the Specialist Advisory Committee for the Additional Dental Specialities. Jonathan has also been an examiner for the Diploma in Dental & Maxillofacial Radiology for the Royal College of Radiologists and external examiner for the University of Liverpool.

Jonathan has an interest in digital imaging and PACS, including Cone Beam CT imaging for which he has a number of publications.

Saoirse O’Toole

Clinical Lecturer
King’s College London Centre for Clinical, Oral and Translational Research

Dr. Saoirse O’Toole is a Clinical Lecturer at King’s College London Centre for Clinical, Oral and Translational Research. Her clinical area of interest is in tooth wear, bruxism and dental sleep medicine. Her research focuses on identifying groups at high risk of disease progression and developing diagnostic tools for use in primary care.

She has lectured nationally and internationally on erosive tooth wear and has published over 40 peer reviewed papers and two book chapters on tooth wear. She has an international patented device for the intraoral detection of gastric acids and has developed a freeware to detect change in sequential 3D medical scans.
