SIG
Session synopsis: 
The ADEE 3D Special Interest Group (SIG) session aims to promote an evidence-informed and community-driven digital transformation in oral health education.

Aligned with the theme "Evidence and Empathy as the Focus in Oral Health Professionals' Education," the session will examine the impact of digital innovations in 3D scanning and printing technologies to enhance teaching. Participants will also discuss the effectiveness of these innovations in boosting student confidence and teaching quality.

The session will also focus on improving community engagement within the ADEE 3D Forum and refining shared resources, including standard operating procedures and teaching resources. Furthermore, participants will help shape future developments by identifying educational needs and priorities across European institutions, while encouraging cross-institutional collaboration.

Members will be invited to join a new core group to ensure continued progress of the community in light of fluctuating capacities to attend the ADEE conference annually.

Embedding an Authentic End-to-End Digital Workflow in Pre-Clinical Dental Education: Implementation, Challenges and Lessons Learned

Geraldine Winstein, Temple University, Philadelphia:
Teaching Evidence based Digital Dentures and Providing Empathic Care for our fully edentulous patients.

Nagham Katif

Lecturer in Technical Prosthodontics
Cardiff University, UK

Nagham is a Lecturer in Technical Prosthodontics, Sustainability Lead, Chair for the Digital Workflow Teaching Group, and AI Champion at the School of Dentistry.

She graduated from the Dental Technology Program at Karolinska Institutet in 2002. She has worked as a dental technician and a CAD/CAM product specialist. She also has over 14 years of teaching experience in the Dental technology and the Dental programmes. Nagham is particularly interested in education, sustainability and digital workflows. Currently, she is focused on developing digital teaching, and methods for embedding sustainability practices as part of the training of future oral health professionals.

Edward Williams

Senior Clinical Teacher in Restorative Dentistry and Primary Dental Care
Cardiff University

Ed is Year 4 Lead and Senior Clinical Teacher in Restorative Dentistry and Primary Dental Care  with the School of Dentistry at the University of Cardiff.

Learning Outcomes: 
  • Critically evaluate the educational impact of emerging digital technologies in oral health training.
  • Identify opportunities to enhance community engagement and resource sharing within the ADEE 3D Forum.
  • Define collective needs and priorities for future development of the SIG through structured reflection and discussion.
