From this year onwards, the ADEE annual fun run will be known as Julia’s fun run, in memory of Prof Julia Davies, our dear friend, colleague, mentor, and long-standing member of the ADEE family.
Julia gave so much to ADEE through her warmth, generosity, collaborative spirit, and unwavering commitment to dental education. This walking and slow run will offer us a simple but meaningful way to remember her each year, celebrating her life, friendship, and lasting contribution to our community.
The wording reflects ADEE’s tribute, which describes Prof Julia Davies as a past board colleague and friend, long-term supporter of ADEE, ADEE Treasurer from 2021 to December 2025, mentor, and valued member of the ADEE family.
The Budapest Riverside Fun Run offers a truly memorable walking and slow running experience, combining sport with some of the most iconic views in Europe.
Starting near the majestic Hungarian Parliament Building, the course follows the Danube’s edge before crossing toward the historic hills of Buda Castle, creating a loop that blends grandeur, history, and natural beauty. Participants will be immersed in the city’s architectural splendour and vibrant atmosphere, making this not just a fun run, but a journey through the heart of Budapest. Meeting point at "Arany János utca" metro station at 06.45h.
Route Overview
This route is a premier sightseeing loop that stays as close to the Danube riverside as possible while incorporating the historic heights of the Buda Castle District. You will experience the contrast between the flat, grand boulevards of Pest and the winding, medieval streets of Buda.
The Landmarks
1. Hungarian Parliament Building
Begin at Kossuth Lajos Square. Run south along the Pest-side embankment, passing the "Shoes on the Danube Bank" memorial.
2. Széchenyi Chain Bridge
Cross the oldest and most iconic bridge in Budapest. Enjoy the view of the Castle looming ahead as you cross over to the Buda side.
3. Fisherman’s Bastion
Climb the stairs or paths up to the Castle Hill. This neo-Romanesque structure provides the most famous panoramic view of the Parliament across the river.
4. Buda Castle
A Scenic Landmark Course: Parliament to Buda Castle Loop. Follow the ridge through the Castle District. Pass the Royal Palace and descend through the castle gardens back toward the riverside.
5. Elizabeth Bridge
Reach the white cable-stayed bridge and cross back to the Pest side. Once across, turn left north to Váci utca, one of the main shopping streets in Budapest.
6. St. Stephen's Basilica
It is the largest church in Budapest and a significant historical landmark within the city's UNESCO World Heritage Site. This will conclude our sightseeing run returning to "Ferenciek tere" metro station to get back to your hotels and get ready for the first day of the ADEE Annual Meeting in Budapest.
