Session synopsis: 
It's been a busy morning so why not take 20 minute sout to gain insight into the importance and benefit of breathwork.

Guided by wellness community of practice member Morag Powell, the impact and benefit of breathwork on stress and emotional well being will be emphaised.

Lecturer in Dental Therapy and Hygiene
University of Plymouth, UK

Morag Powell is both a Dental Hygienist and a Dental Therapist, lecturing on the BSc (Hons) Dental Therapy and Hygiene programme at the University of Plymouth and has a particular interest in wellbeing, resilience, and student support within healthcare education. Alongside her academic role, Morag is a qualified yoga and breathwork (pranayama) instructor, delivering weekly classes that focus on evidence-informed approaches to stress management, self-regulation, and wellbeing. She is passionate about helping individuals develop practical techniques to enhance both personal wellbeing and professional performance.

Learning Outcomes: 

By the end of the session, participants will be able to:

  1. Describe the principles of breathwork and its potential role in supporting wellbeing, stress management and self-regulation.
  2. Explain the physiological and psychosocial mechanisms through which breathing practice can influence stress attention and emotional wellbeing.
  3. Demonstrate and reflect upon at least one simple breathwork technique that can be incorporated in personal wellbeing practices of educational settings.
