Congratulations to the ADEE 2024 Awards Recipients

The ADEE Executive Committee and membership extends a sincere congratulations to the recipients of the 2024 ADEE Awards.

The ADEE awards are a means by which ADEE recognises colleagues for their contribution and efforts to the advancement of oral health professionals' education. At this year's meeting in Leuven the following awards were presented:

 

ADEE Excellence in Dental Education Early Career Awards

Early career educators requirements included having between 3 and 8 years experience, can provide evidence of particular strengths and/or innovation in one or more areas of dental education, have institutional responsibilities and can demonstrate local and/or national esteem.

Mature career educators requirements included having in excess of 8 years experience, can provide evidence of leadership roles related to dental education, demonstrate they provide pedagogical support to junior staff and have national and international esteem within the profession.

The 2024 ADEE Oral B intra/inter professional award was presented to Michaelina Macluskey, University of Dundee, United Kingdom, who demonstrated her commitment to the evolving of inter professional education and in particular the work she discharges with regards the sharing oral health teaching with medical and other health professionals. 

 

ADEE-HALEON Preventative Oral Health in Society Award

In partnership with HALEON, two ADEE member schools were recognised for their work with the promotion of oral health care in the community and in particular the integration of preventative oral health in the community within the curriculum activities. Thanks to the generous support of HALEON the following projects , each receive €2,500 in support.

Doris Voortmans and the KU Leuven Dept of Oral Health Sciences for their pilot project of a joint thesis between dentistry and dental hygiene student. This interdisciplinary research project will also involve nurses and teach them how to recognize oral health problems. Depending on the results, you will make recommendations for the inclusion of basic oral health screenings in the nursing curriculum, resulting in better oral hygiene for care-dependent people and early detection of and response to oral health care needs.

Clement Seeballuck and the University of Dundee, United Kingdom for their project that aims was to introduce students to their role in the health and wellbeing of the wider society, through experiential community learning activities in tandem with evidence-based classroom learning. Students engage with groups in the community including soup kitchens, mental health support and medically compromised groups. Students conduct an oral health needs assessment informing the design of oral health improvement interventions they deliver in person for the groups.

Congratulation to The Faculty of Dentistry, Ankara University, Ankara, Türkiye and The Faculty of Dentistry, Semmelweis University, Budapest, Hungary, who were both presented with a 2024 Oral Health Professional Educators’ ‘Practice Green©’ Awards at ADEE 2024 Leuven. Delivered in partnership with EDSA and Henry Schein awards are designed to promote sustainability principles in the education and professional environments of oral health practitioners. In 2024, the application focused on campus-wide initiatives that enable and embed sustainable behaviours and practices in faculty and student populations, as well as encouraging such behaviours in others.
