ADEE Berlin: Venue and Transport Options

Venue

The Langenbeck-Virchow-Haus (located at Luisenstr. 58/59, 10117 Berlin, Germany) is our meeting venue for ADEE 2019. Named after Bernard Von Lagenbeck (remembered as the "father of the surgical residency") and Rudulf Ludwig Karl Virchow (known by many as "the father of modern pathology") it is home of the German Surgery Association and the Berlin Medical Association.   Located behind the Charité Hospital in the Chairte Mitte Capmus the venue is steeped in German history having served as “People’s Chamber”, the Parliament of the GDR. Since 2005 it has been renovated to become a purpose build state of the art convention centre

Flying to Berlin

Berlin has two airports, Berlin Tegel "Otto Lilienthal" Airport (TXL) is the main international airport of Berlin, while Berlin Schönefeld Airport (SXF) serves as Berlin’s secondary international airport. Tegel (TXL) is situated in Tegel, a section of the northern borough of Reinickendorf, 8 km northwest of the city centre of Berlin. Airport transfer is easy to the Charite Mitte Campus as the airport bus passes directly by. The bus journey takes approximately 20 minutes and costs less than 3 each way. Schönefeld (SXF) is located 18 km southeast of Berlin near the town of Schönefeld in the state of Brandenburg and borders Berlin's southern boundary. It is the smaller of the two airports in Berlin, after Berlin Tegel Airport, and is a base for Germania, easyJet and Ryanair. Schönefeld Airport has a railway station that provides excellent connections (regional and S-Bahn trains) to Berlin's centre and surrounding areas. Numerous bus connections round off the range of local public transport options. You can find more information on TXL and SXF at these links.

Public Transport in Berlin

Berlin has an integrated and effective public transport system. The U-Bahn (underground) has 10 lines commenting all over the city, the local station is Naturkundemuseum. The S-Bahn (rapid railway transit system) connects the city to a wider surrounding area.

The U-Bahn, S-Bhan, Tramlines and Bus lines are all operated by a single company Verkehrsverbund Berlin-Brandenburg or VBB. Thus with a valid ticket, ticket holders have access to all public transport in Berlin. The fare depends on the tariff zone and the ticket's period of validity.
