Welcome to ADEE 2018: Dental education in a Changing Society
Oslo, Norway: 22-24 August 2018

Dear Participants,
On behalf of the Faculty of Dentistry, University of Oslo, we are delighted to invite you to the 44th Annual Meeting of ADEE in 2018.

We welcome you to Oslo, the capital and most populous city in Norway. It combines both nature and culture, located at the head of the Oslo Fjord and surrounded by the forested hills of Nordmarka. Visiting Oslo you can discover rock carvings created in the Stone Age, Medieval Oslo with a first town-like settlement appearing around the year 1000 AD in today’s Gamlebyen. Oslo offers a variety of sights, art with highlights as the Munch museum and contemporary architecture as the Oslo Opera. The city provides the advantages of a metropolis with an extensive and convenient communication structure combined with a charming and informal character, short distances and the city’s proximity to the recreation areas and the beautiful outdoors and inviting fjord and small islands.

The city is, not least, home of the University of Oslo (UiO), Norway’s oldest and highest ranked educational and research institution, with 28 000 students and 7000 employees. With its broad range of academic disciplines and internationally recognised research communities, UiO is an important contributor to the society. The University of Oslo aims to enhance the quality of research, education and innovation through long-term strategic partnerships with world-leading universities and active participation in international university networks.

The Faculty of Dentistry is one of eight faculties at the University of Oslo. It is the largest institution for dental education in Norway in terms of students and employees with around 400 students, including bachelor in dental hygiene, master in dentistry, and post-graduate training in dentistry, additionally 64 PhD candidates. Moreover, it is the only independent faculty of dentistry in Norway and one of the largest institutions of its kind in Northern Europe. The Faculty comprises two institutes, the Institute of Clinical Dentistry and the Institute of Oral Biology. The Faculty takes great pride in its teachers’ high and scientifically diverse academic competence in dental education and research, which contributes to educating dentists and contributing to securing oral health. The members of staff actively participate in interdisciplinary national and international networks. The students have access to, and are tutored/ trained in Northern Europe’s largest dental clinic, which provides them with a unique access to a full range of patients. The Faculty has a highly competent and merited scientific staff, who supply the foundation needed to provide evidence-based teaching for dental students.
