Session synopsis: 

The training of dental students should equally include the acquisition of knowledge, skills and ability to cure disease, as well as maintaining and promoting health. In this context, to teach the practice of efficient oral hygiene habit that respects oral environment is advisable. It is time to change the traditional model of teaching oral hygiene habits based on theory and generalist approaches to another patient-centered and based on new evidences in dental biofilm management.

Speakers: 

Isabel Martinez Lizan

Professor of Preventive and Community Dentistry
University of Barcelona Spain

Dr Isabel Martinez Lizan holds a Degree in Dentistry from the University of Barcelona, a Master's Degree in Oral Public Health (University of the Basque Country) and obtained her PhD in Dentistry from the University of Barcelona.

She is Professor of Preventive and Community Dentistry in the Odontostomatology Department, Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences. University of Barcelona. She serves as Head of the Preventive and Community Dentistry Service of the Dental Hospital of the University of Barcelona and as the Vice-president of the Ethics and Research Committee with medicines (CEIm) of the Dental Hospital of the University of Barcelona.

Isabel is a member of the Bioethics Committee of the University of Barcelona and a member of the Spanish Society of Epidemiology and Oral Public Health (SESPO),

Learning Outcomes: 

Participation in this session will:

  • Outline an effective oral hygiene habit that respects the oral environment
  • Motivate the dentist in the practice of excellent oral hygiene habit as a key element in the prevention of oral diseases
