ADEE is an academic-led organisation grounded in the foundations and sound principles of the European Cultural Convention (ECC), which sets the framework of the European Higher Education Area (EHEA), and the World Health Organisation European and Eastern Mediterranean regional structures.
Faithful to our founding principles and ideals and aligned with the United Nations Charter, the International Covenants on Civil and Political Rights as well as the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, the Association for Dental Education in Europe (ADEE) strongly condemns Russia's act of war on the Ukraine, which is a clear violation of international law and of Ukraine's sovereignty.
ADEE expresses its unequivocal and zealous commitment to upholding of Human Rights and expresses strong support to the civilian population and of our colleagues and other health professionals in Ukraine, which sadly dwell and suffer at the side-lines of the conflict. ADEE is concerned over the rising wave of refugees and their rights, keeping in mind that some of them are international students and faculty. We received with great concern the reports that universities and hospitals and health personnel have been affected by the attacks and urge for an urgent cease-fire and for the respect of the international principle of medical neutrality, academic freedom and human rights.
ADEE extends its support and sympathy to the Ukrainian Dental Schools and further commits all efforts to contact and inquire about opportunities to assist them with practical support. We commend our student colleagues in EDSA who are facilitating a DATABASE of people that are serious about offering a short-time accommodation to refugees, you can find more on this here.
ADEE President Pål Barkvoll will continue to link in with our colleagues, oral health professionals and educators in the Ukraine over the coming days as we all hope and pray for a speedy end to this crisis.
